Supported Audio Formats

Power Studio supports the common broadcast and music file formats used by radio stations.

Playback Formats

Power Studio can play:

  • Advanced Audio Codec: .aac, .adts.
  • Apple Lossless Audio Codec: .m4a.
  • Audio IFF: .aif, .aiff.
  • Broadcast Wave: .bwf.
  • FLAC: .flac, .fla, .oga, .ogg.
  • MPEG Layer 1: .mp1, .m1a.
  • MPEG Layer 2: .mp2, .m2a, .mpa, .mus, .s48.
  • MPEG Layer 3: .mp3, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp3pro.
  • MPEG 4 Audio: .mp4, .m4a, .m4b.
  • Monkey's Audio: .ape, .mac.
  • Musepack: .mpc, .mp+, .mpp.
  • Ogg Vorbis: .ogg.
  • Opus: .opus.
  • WAVE Audio: .wav.
  • Windows Media Audio: .wma, .wmv.

Some formats depend on Windows media components or optional codecs.

For station libraries, prefer predictable broadcast formats such as WAV, Broadcast Wave, FLAC or high-quality MP3. Avoid relying on unusual codecs for core playout unless they have been tested on every Power Studio workstation.

Recording And Encoding Formats

By default, Power Studio supports recording or encoding to:

  • FLAC.
  • MP3.
  • Ogg Vorbis.
  • WAVE.
  • Windows Media Audio.

External encoders can add support for formats such as MPEG Layer 2, AAC and AAC Plus, depending on the encoders installed with the system.

When external encoders are used, install and test them on each computer that records, renders or processes dynamic content. A playlist can be generated correctly while a render still fails on a workstation that does not have the required encoder.
