Static Items

Static Items are reusable links to tracks in the database. They are useful for fixed content that appears in many formats.

Common Uses

Examples:

  • Top-of-hour jingles.
  • Show openers.
  • Fixed sponsor tags.
  • A station feature that changes periodically.
  • Intro, outro or separator items for commercial blocks.

Create And Use Static Items

Create and manage Static Items in Options and Settings > Scheduler.

When a Static Item is used in a Clock Format, Power Studio inserts the track linked to that Static Item. If the station later changes the linked track, the formats do not need to be edited.

Use Static Items when the position is fixed but the actual audio may change over time.

Each Static Item has a Name and a linked Track. Use a functional name, such as Top of hour opener, Commercial block closer or Weather bed, instead of the exact file title. That way the linked track can change later without making the format harder to understand.

After Changes

After changing the linked track, generate or review a test playlist that uses the Static Item. Confirm the content type, timing markers and audio availability of the new track.

Power Studio warns when a Static Item is still in use and an administrator tries to delete it. Treat that warning as a dependency check: first find the Clock Formats, traffic workflows or other settings that still use the Static Item, then decide whether to replace it, remove it from those places or keep it.
