LabJack U3 Control

Use the LabJack U3 plugin to connect physical inputs and outputs to Power Studio commands and status.

Configure

Install the required LabJack driver before enabling the plugin. Use the Power Studio supplied driver from the Power Studio Support Tools page. This driver must be used for Power Studio installations, because it is the driver version the plugin is built and tested against.

The manufacturer's hardware page is useful when checking the device type, connector layout and specifications: LabJack U3-LV.

Connect the LabJack U3 to the computer by USB. The U3 does not use an IP address; when Power Studio needs to distinguish between devices on the same computer, use the LabJack Local ID or serial number.

After installing the driver:

  1. Open LJControlPanel from the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Click Find Devices and select the connected U3 device.
  3. If the station uses more than one LabJack device on the same computer, set a unique Local ID for each device and click Write Values.
  4. Click Config Defaults to configure the power-up state of the device.
  5. Configure the required FIO, EIO and CIO lines as digital inputs or outputs for the station wiring.
  6. Click Write Values in the Config Defaults screen to store the configuration in the device.
  7. Power-cycle the device and confirm the defaults still match the station wiring.

Use the Test panel in LJControlPanel to check the physical wiring before mapping the device in Power Studio. The Test panel is useful for checking whether an input changes state or whether an output switches, but settings changed in the Test panel are temporary and are not saved as power-up defaults.

Then configure the station's input/output mapping in Power Studio.

Check The Hardware

Test every input and output with non-critical audio before using it in live operation.

Retest the LabJack after replacing the computer, changing USB ports, reinstalling the driver, changing the Local ID or changing the station wiring.
